Subject: Terri Schiavo's death sentence

Dear Manager:

I was recently asked by the family and friends of Terri Schiavo to pray for her.

I vaguely remembered hearing about this story in the media, so I went to www.terrisfight.org , a website created and maintained by Terri's family and friends to find out more. What I discovered is appalling.

I am appalled at the decision of the Florida Supreme Court in allowing Terri's husband have her feeding and water tubes removed and allowing her to essentially starve to death or die of dehydration. Convicted murderers in the state of Florida are executed by lethal injection. Even stray cats and dogs are euthanized by lethal injection. However, in this instance, the Court has pronounced a death sentence by cruel and unusual means.

Ms. Schiavo is Catholic. Her family has asked for support and help from the Church. I am appalled by the lack of comment and protest from the Catholic bishops in Florida.

I am appalled by the lack of concern by the ACLU and NOW. Wouldn't you say her civil rights have been violated. Something in the Constitution I remember about the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I am appalled by the lack of investigative reporting by serious journalists. No one interested in discovering the real motives behind Terri's husband's interest in having Terri die. He sued for medical malpractice, what was the size of the award? How much has he actually paid for Terri's care? How much does he have left? Any insurance money involved? Would he lose this if he divorced Terri and married his girlfriend, with whom he has had a child? Anything suspicious about her physical when her husband brought her to the hospital after she "collapsed"?

I am appalled by the apathy of our government officials and the apathy of the public in general. What happened to the dignity and sanctity of life. So many cling desperately to the last threads of life because it is thought so precious, but here is a helpless, innocent victim whose life will be ended because she is a "burden."

Sincerely,

Tony Salvatore
