Comment from the candidate:
Many people who do not believe in God cheer the public schools and courts for throwing God out of school. And in truth, we Christians should not wish to force non-believers into believing just as we would not appreciate being forced to renounce our faith, and just as we do not appreciate being forced to tolerate their values and teachings in the public indroctrination centers called public schools.
For people who value individual liberty, including the freedom to worship their God, the real conflict arises when the reality hits that the public schools are controlled by people with an agenda to proselytize their own brand of religion or social agenda upon other people's kids, including our own! There is a plan to control and transform society through the public school system.
The only way out of this mess is to walk out of public schools. School Choice will provide the financial ability to do this by giving to each child his or her rightful share of the educational tax dollar forcibly collected from the taxpayers to fund the education of the public.
Here are a few quotes to substantiate the point that the schools are all about an agenda to proselytize both values and beliefs. Individuals who love liberty, religious or not, should not tolerate this tyrannical indoctrination of young minds.
" Class ideologies of the past will give place to scientific materialist philosophy. Among the elementary measures the American Soviet government will adopt to further the cultural revolution are the following: the schools, colleges and universities will be coordinated and grouped under the National Department of Education and its state and local branches. The studies will be revolutionized, being cleansed of religious, patriotic and other features of the bourgeoisie ideology. The students will be taught on the basis of Marxian dialectical materialism, internationalism, and the general ethics of the new socialist society ... Science will become materialistic ... God will be banished from the laboratories as well as from the schools. "
-- William Z. Foster, head of the Communist Party USA 1932, cited in the book 'Toward Soviet America' --
" Education is thus a most powerful ally of humanism. What can the theistic Sunday schools, meeting for an hour once a week, and teaching only a fraction of the children, do to stem the tide of a five-day program of humanistic teaching? "
-- Charles Francis Potter, 'Humanism, 1933, A New Religion' --
" Someone really is after us ... [the NEA and its affiliates] have been singled out because of our political power and effectiveness at all levels – because we have the ability to help implement the type of liberal social and economic agenda that [they] find unacceptable. "
-- Robert H. Chanin, NEA general counsel in a speech to the National Council of State Education Associations --
" [The] assumption that it is the aim of the [American] public school to fan the intelligence and to produce large numbers of alert and curious youths of both sexes is foolish. The state maintains its control of elementary education, not primarily to reduce illiteracy and turn the eyes of the plain people toward the stars, but to make sure that they are not taught anything that is subversive. Public education is thus a police measure. The goal it moves toward is perfect standardization, perfect discipline, perfect imbecility. "
-- H. L. Mencken, Baltimore Sun, February 23, 1924 --
" I am convinced that the battle for human kind's future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as proselytizers of a new faith. [The war is] between the rotting corpse of Christianity and the future faith of humanism. Humanism will emerge triumphant. "
-- John Dunphy, Humanist Magazine, Jan.-Feb. 1983, pg. 26 --
" To be sure, the American public school system embodies a humanistic tradition in which truth is not regarded as revealed and absolute. They are Secular Humanist institutions. "
-- Alex Molnar, ‘Fundamental Differences’, Educational Leadership Magazine, Jan. 1994, pg. 4. --
" Most youth still hold the same values as their parents, and if we don't resocialize, our system will decay. "
-- Dr. John Goodlad, Iserbyt, Charlotte. ‘Back to Basics Reform’, p.24., The John Goodlad School of Teacher Training is located at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.. Dr. Goodlad has gained notoriety in educational circles as an authority. He is best known for this complaint in 1970 --
" Parents and the general public must be reached also. Otherwise, children and youth enrolled in globally oriented programs may find themselves in conflict with values assumed in the home. And then the educational institution frequently comes under scrutiny and must pull back. "
-- Dr. John Goodlad of The John Goodlad School of Teacher Training, in the preface to SCHOOLING FOR A GLOBAL AGE, 1980 --
" Fundamental, Bible-believing people do not have the right to indoctrinate their children in their religious beliefs because we, the state, are preparing them for the year 2000 when America will be part of a one-world global society, and their children will not fit in. "
-- Nebraska State Senator Peter Hoagland, Radio Interview, 1983, quoted from: ‘Operation Vampire Killer 2000’, p. 12. --
" Building better schools is Union work. "
-- Printed on the carry-on of an employee of Washington Teachers’ Union; Local 6; AFT; AFLCIO?; While deplaning at BWI airport in Baltimore. This slogan sounds a lot like the UMWA bumper stickers in Southern Illinois just a couple of years before the mines shut down. It read, " The coal comes up Union or it stays in the ground. " --
